Hasbro has been producing toys and Star Wars figures based on The Phantom Menace since 1998, when they first released the sneak peak Mace Windu figure and the Battle Droid with STAP. The official craze started on Episode 1's Midnight Madness on May 3rd, 1999.

In order to celebrate The Phantom Menace's 10th anniversary in 2009, Hasbro released an entire wave of action figures based on the movie, and offered collectors and kids a special mail-in promotion where you could get a Qui-Gon Jinn figure with Eopie from them.
The Phantom Menace debuted breaking many box office records. It broke The Lost World: Jurassic Park's records for the largest single-day gross with more than $28 million in the opening day (first surpassed in 2001 by Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), and fastest to $100 million gross in five days (surpassed in 2002 by Spider-Man). It also became the fastest movie to reach the $200 million and $300 million mark, surpassing Independence Day and Titanic respectively.
