Emerald City Comic Convention - Februrary 29, 2004
The comic con was held at downtown Seattle's Seahawks Stadium. Taj and I
got up early so we could be right there when the doors opened at 10am.
We got there a bit early and stopped by at Starbucks right around the corner,
got some white hot chocolate, cup of coffee and the best pumpkin loaf I ever had.
We slowly walked over to the Stadium and were surprised to see hundreds of people standing
in line ...
Cover was 8 bucks, which was well worth it. As soon as we walked in we got a
goodie bag with all kinds of comic stuff in it. Not really exciting to me because I am not into
comics at all. The cool thing about the goodie bag were the four Star Wars gaming cards from Decipher.
We walked around the whole area first to see what people were selling and what booths there were.
Dreamworks had a stand promoting their up-coming movies, especially Shrek 2, which was cool 'cause I dig
layers and Taj loves onion boy.
It seemed like every
booth had give-aways in one sort or another, mainly posters and postcards. In the very back they had tons
of artists drawing, signing autographs, selling their comics or talking to fans. It was inspiring to see
artists draw characters within the blink of an eye ... really cool.
Then we walked around and took our time with all the Star Wars booths. People were selling a big variety of
star wars merchandise. Vintage stuff, new figures, books, comics etc .... And boy, one guy had incredibly
good prices and I was lucky to get a whole lot of cool stuff for very very cheap ... :)
For those of you
into Star Wars, I got the complete galaxy series with Yoda, Luke Jedi, Vader and Ewok; Cinema
Scenes: Rebel Pilots, Watto's box and Tatooine Showdown ... every single piece was only five bucks ... The guy running
the booth even
gave me a Jar Jar mini bust for free, they used to have those at Taco Bell during the Phantom Menace opening ... cool.
The main reason I wanted to go to the Comic Convention was the announcement of two Star Wars actresses,
Amy Allen who played Jedi Knight Aayla Secura in Attack of the Clones and Michonne Bourriague who
was Bounty Hunter Aurra Sing in the Phantom Menace.
I got both of their autographs and a picture with both of them. Luckily there was absolutely
no waiting time and both of them were very nice. You can check out their autographs up on my
autograph section of the website. All in all, the Emerald City Comic Con 2004 was great, plenty of Star Wars, fair prices and very
talented people all in one spot. Next years convention is supposed to be in March 2005 and it will be
twice as big. Since it is going to be in 2005 I hope there will be more Star Wars actors there. Chances
are good, considering the last Star Wars movie will be released just a few months after it and the hype
should be through the roof by then :)
Amy Allen and Michonne Bourriague:
