Emerald City Comic Convention - February 5, 2005

Last year I had predicted that we'd get to see some Star Wars actors again at the annual Emerald City Comic Convention because of the Episode 3 release just a few months down the road. Unfortunately I was wrong. But, it's called a Comic and not a Star Wars convention anyways, and even though there was not a lot of Star Wars stuff, it was still bigger, better, and cooler than last year.

The Show was once again held at the Qwest Field (formerly Seahawks Stadium) in downtown Seattle's Pionieer Square area, but instead of one day like last year, the convention was scheduled to go for two days. We arrived about half an hour before the show started and the line was huge! The entrance fee by the way was 10 dollars (15 for both days). While waiting in line we saw some Stormtroopers and Biker Scouts walking by, a Jawa and a Jedi, and we saw some people dressed like the Punisher, and Neo from the Matrix.

Once we got in, we noticed that the convention was probably twice as big as the year before. There were many people who came with their favorite comic books in order to get them signed, and some even brought their portfolios to show their work. We spotted some big names from the animation and comics industry like Dreamworks, Dark Horse Comics, and Marvel.

For Star Wars Fans they had Randy Emberlin invited who worked on the Star Wars Tales comics, there were fans in costumes walking around, and a few booths carried Star Wars merchandise.

Needless to say that I hoped to score some cool Star Wars stuff like last year. I ended up with a FF Darth Vader with removable helmet and three Episode 1 Battle Droids (2 dirty, 1 shot) for 2 dollars each, plus 3 Clone Wars comics for 25 cents each. Best of all, a dealer told me about a new shop that has opened in my neighborhood which sells Star Wars Action Figures (vintage carded, and carries the modern lines).

I am looking forward to seeing how the convention is going to be next year. 2005 was definitely an improvement in size and with a little bit of luck we might get to see more Star Wars again!
