More than 12 years had past since the last Star Wars movie was released in movie theaters (Return Of The Jedi in 1983), but with the Special Editions on the horizon, and a much rumored and possible new prequel trilogy, Kenner decided to revive their Star Wars action figure line in the summer of 1995... please click to expand

Kenner named the new toy line "The Power Of The Force 2", which was a continuation of the toy line that preceded it in 1985, which was named "The Power Of The Force". Needless to say that the POTF2 collection was a massive retail success. one thing that Kenner did right was to release characters as action figures that had not been done before in the vintage line. Characters like the Sandtrooper, Governor Tarkin, and Slave Leia were very well received by fans. Kenner at the time (which was later aquired by Hasbro) used the POTF2 line to experiment with lots of different designs. They started out with a He-Man like, buffed-up look, they tried action poses and included big weapons with the figures. In the end, the figures lost their bulkyness more and more, sculpting and molding techniques improved, and figures became slowly more accurate and represented much more what people remembered from the movies.
